There Can Be Miracles When You Believe

You might well wonder why a Gospel Conversation post has a picture of an American Idol contestant, David Archuleta, and a picture of the promotional poster for the movie "The Prince of Egypt." Last night in class we talked about miracles, as taught by the great prophet Moroni in Mormon chapters 8 & 9. When I came home from class, to wind down a bit I turned on the TV and there was David Archuleta singing the following lyrics:

Many nights we've prayed

With no hope anyone could hear.

In our hearts a hopeful song we barely understood.

Now we are not afraid

Although we know there's much to fear.

We were moving mountains long before we knew we could.

Chorus

There can be miracles when you believe.

Though hope is frail, it's hard to kill.

Who knows what miracles you can achieve

When you believe.

Somehow you will, You will when you believe.

In this time of fear,

When prayer so often proved in vain,

Hope seemed like the summer birds so swiftly flown away.

But now I'm standing here(Now I'm standing here)

With heart so full I can't explain

Seeking faith and speaking words I never thought I'd say.

Repeat Chorus.
It was Pop Culture's way of speaking a truth: There can be miracles when you believe.
Moroni said he would "Show unto [us] a God of miracles" (Mormon 9:11). He went on to describe this God, our God, as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and the "same God who created the heavens and the earth, and all things that in them are."
In order to experience miracles in your life it is necessary to have a true concept of God and His nature and powers. Thus, Moroni continues his exhortation by explaining that this same God was the creator of Adam and Eve, that his great plan anticipated the fall of man in the garden, and the fall's effect on all mankind. God's plan allows for our agency and suffering. Joyously, His plan also allowed for our redemption through the mission and atonement of Jesus Christ. The greatest miracle for all of us is that we can be restored, purified, redeemed, made whole, enhanced, improved, and perfected through the grace of Jesus. His daily blessings upon us, yes, daily miracles, move us along the path to the desired end (rather, eternity).
So, do you believe in miracles?
Have miracles ceased in your life? Or do they abound?
Moroni said "I say unto you [God] changeth not...he ceaseth not to be God, and is a God of miracles" (Mormon 9:19). Moroni invites us to believe that God still performs miracles in our behalf and through us, if we will doubt not and believe in Christ.
"Behold, are not the things that God hath wrought [and still does] marvelous in our eyes?" Mormon 9:16
Go on, move some mountains in your life. Who knows what miracles you can achieve if only you'll believe.
